On the 15th of April, starting at 6 pm, for 75 minutes, Jessika Khazrik will activate the 8-channels sound system she built during the pandemic and installed on ar/ge kunst’s vitrine, with an AI-aided hybrid set performed live with remote access from her studio in Berlin.

The remote set is based on an AI-aided hybrid mix she recorded for the Beirut-based online radio, Radio Karantina, while bed-ridden in June 2020. Acting as an encomium to a ‘perennial solidarity with the sick and the possible’ and the community-based platforms that were informally founded during the syndemic, IN FIRES & FUMIGATIONS emerges out of Khazrik’s extensive explorations of the interlinks between remedies and media, ‘spooky action at a distance’ and critical uses of machine learning for music production and DJing.

IN FIRES & FUMIGATIONS will be experienceable exclusively from the street, with no online event. You can listen to the preliminary, bed-ridden AI-aided mix on Radio KARANTINA and read the artist statement over this link:https://soundcloud.com/radiokarantina/radio-karantina-day-one-hundred-jessika-khazrik

This is a giddy and loving mix, made horizontally while lying down. I’m currently in the early process of recovering from a sudden and severe internal infection, so to avoid pain and the daily postures that are no longer possible, I’m having to spend my days horizontally. As is usually the case with newly experienced medical conditions (that I very much hope never come again), as soon as a symptom disappears, it reappears with 3 novel ones, so the body can’t keep up. This has been, waywardly, channeled through the mix. No dance music this time, just chanting, anti-establishment slurs and some new machine learning mixing techniques recorded live for the first time. Happy centennial days Radio KARANTINA! This one specifically goes for our hopefully perennial solidarity with the sick and the possible.”
