SAVOIR-VIVRE #2
HOW TO MIX DRINKS
Cocktail Workshop with Daniele Turrina and Parasite 2.0

April 16, 2019, 6:00 PM—8:00 PM

In the context of the exhibition Temporary Lovers by Parasite 2.0

Curated by Simone Mair

“In all the ages of the world, and in all countries, men have indulged in “social drinks”. They have always possessed themselves of some popular beverage apart from water and those of the breakfast and tea table.” These are the initial words by Professor Jerry Thomas, writing “The Bon Vivant’s Companion” or “How To Mix Drinks” in 1862, a book containing over 500 receipes of various cocktails. Considering the importance of communal moments in the exhibition Temporary Lovers by the collective Parasite 2.0, the workshop focuses on the mixing of cocktails as well as on the social aspect of drinking. Together with Daniele Turrina, a local bartender, participants will question, unlearn and relearn the ritual of cocktail making and link it to artistic practices in the exhibition and beyond.

How To Mix Drinks is part of the workshop series savoir-vivre that is conceived in parallel to exhibition programme at ar/ge kunst. The title savoir-vivre is based on a re-reading of the terms savoir and pouvoir in the work of Gayatri Spivak, co-founder of postcolonial Theory, where knowledge (savoir) is not only linked to power but also to the condition of being able to (pouvoir). This combination of verbs turns the institution into a public space of negotiation and agency where an exploration of different forms of skills and competences produces collective knowledge.
